Center for Community Advocacy
Under Heal Together, Center for Community Advocacy will capitalize upon its extensive network of Promotores de Salud (Community Health Workers) to raise awareness of Heal Together bereavement information and services among hard-to-reach communities including farmworkers and other low-income populations and those in south Monterey County. As a critical community partner, CCA staff and volunteers will participate in comprehensive training in grief and bereavement in Spanish and develop materials appropriate for distribution among Spanish-speaking and indigenous communities throughout our county.
Their Vision. We envision farmworkers, low-income families, and youth leading neighborhood-based committees (comités) that successfully advocate for improved housing, health, and economic conditions and opportunities for our community.
We envision a strengthened social fabric of our community through alliances, and the development of community leaders.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT HARMONY AT HOME
How has this program impacted you (and your children)?
The Children's 1st program has made a positive impact on my family and me. I am very grateful for the things I learned and have been implementing new positive changes in my life since I took this course. The instructor did a great job of helping me see and understand my current situation from my children's perspective. I hope that this program continues to help families and continues to advocate for the best interests of our children.
Would you recommend this program/agency to others?
I sincerely recommend this program to other families. I had a good experience taking the two-class program, I signed up not knowing what to expect. The instructor was very professional and made this class feel like a neutral place for me to speak about my family and ongoing struggles after a divorce. He listened to me and empathized with my situation and made his recommendations on the matter.
What changes have you seen (either in yourself or your children)?
I have made positive changes in how I communicate with my children and their father (ex-husband). My children are little, and they are learning to understand that I and their father do not live together, and this is their reality. I, as their mother, must make my best to help them go through and adjust to their new lifestyle. For the best interest of my children, I am actively working on improving the co-parenting relationship I have with my ex-husband.
I want to express my gratitude to the instructor Jonathan, and everyone involved in the Children 1st program. I appreciate the work that you all do.

How has this program impacted you and your children?
It’s a great program that is geared towards children, and also touches on why parents feel the way that they do post-divorce. The video is also a heartbreaking eye-opener on how children think about their parent’s divorce.
Would you recommend this program/agency to others?
Yes, I definitely would recommend this program to others. It was actually court-ordered for me and my ex-husband, but I gave rave reviews to my lawyer when she asked me about it.
What changes have you seen, either in yourself or your children?
My children haven’t met with their teacher/mentor yet, but taking the classes myself, I know they will find it helpful like I did when they do.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I am so grateful for the grant that allowed these classes to be brought to my kids’ school and we were able to get the class for free. This has helped me a lot.
